The Pink Supporters began with a simple idea: connection and care.
In Ross alone, around 14 local women have experienced breast cancer. The group was created after recognising the need for a dedicated support network for people affected by cancer in the Midlands.
Every six weeks, Pink Supporters gather for a cuppa and a chat, reaching beyond Ross to Campbell Town, Oatlands and communities across the Midlands. It’s an opportunity to check in, share experiences, offer advice and, most importantly, remind each other that no one has to face cancer alone.
Pink Supporters is for anyone affected by cancer — whether they are going through treatment, a survivor, or supporting a loved one.
Providing Practical Support
When Pink Supporters hear of someone facing cancer, they reach out with a small care package containing:
- A personal card
- Information about the group
- Vouchers for petrol, chemists, groceries or a meal out
It’s a simple way of saying: You’re not alone. We’re nearby, and we understand.
Supporting Their Work
Pink Supporters raise funds through raffles, community events and local fundraising initiatives. In their first year, they provided more than $2,000 in vouchers to people facing cancer and donated $500 to the Holman Car, which helps transport people to treatment.
They are also working towards a big goal: helping fund a new mammogram machine in Launceston. With current wait times stretching into months, they believe better access to screening can save lives. It’s a long-term goal, but every step counts.
