Maurice Victor Richards

Maurice RichardsIn January 1916 Maurice, a carpenter, enlisted at the age of 18. His medical examination found him unfit for service as he was suffering with haemorrhoids and refused to have an operation to correct the condition.

He appears to have tried again in August 1918 and by this time he had a dove tattooed on his right arm.

Maurice did not see active service overseas.

He died in 1986.

Maurice’s story is part of our exhibition: Our Grateful Thanks and Loving Remembrance, a moving and deeply personal exhibition remembering the soldiers whose names are immortalised on the Ross War Memorial.
