Samuel Horton's WashstandWhat a treasure this Georgian washstand is. Dating around 1780, it’s full of features.

The hinged lid on the washstand opens to reveal a mirror and compartmentalised tray for storing items.

The top drawer holds an enamel wash basin. The doors below access cupboards, and then another drawer below. All drawers and cupboards are lockable.

Captain Samuel Horton of Somercotes used this piece of furniture during his service in the Merchant Navy, trading in the China Seas.
