Members of the Gatenby family visited the Wool Centre Museum to donate a
French clock that had been presented to the Hon. James Gibson of ‘Bellevue’as a prize from the Northern Midlands Agricultural Association for ‘best ram exceeding two and a half years’in 1894.
The clock has been meticulously restored by horologist Rob White, who has also recently been working with Entally House on their clock collection.
The Hon James Gibson was famous in the late 1800s for his prize-winning Merino flock. A portrait of one of his rams on glass was also presented to the musuem, and shows an ideal ram of the 1890s, and gives a glimpse of how the breed may have changed over the past century.
